Forms of Payment

Self - Pay and Insurance Pay

What Self-Pay and Forms of Payment are accepted?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Cash, and HSA/FSA cards.
What insurance plans do you accept?
In-Network Plans
  • Cigna: We are in-network with Cigna PPO and Cigna Open Access Plus (OAP). These plans frequently offer robust coverage for chronic pain or nausea.
  • UnitedHealthcare (ASH): We accept UHC Choice Plus and UHC POS plans specifically managed through American Specialty Health (ASH).

Out-of-Network Plans

  • Note: For these plans, you pay our self-pay rate upfront until your out-of-network deductible is met. Once met, we accept the assignment for the following plans that have acupuncture coverage:
  • Aetna: We accept Aetna Choice, Aetna POS, and Aetna PPO on an out-of-network basis, which covers our regular rates.
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas: We accept BCBS TX PPO and BCBS TX POS plans, which cover our regular rates.
  • For all other plans and policies, you pay the self-pay rates, and we provide a professionally coded Superbill that you can upload to your insurance portal for reimbursement. Many patients find that their insurance covers a significant portion of their holistic wellness visits.

Does Medicare Cover Acupuncture?

Texas Acupuncturists are not recognized as independent providers:

Can a licensed Acupuncturist submit a Medicare claim for me in Texas?
Medicare and Acupuncture Coverage
In the state of Texas, Licensed Acupuncturists (LAc) are not currently recognized as "independent providers" by Medicare. This means we cannot submit claims directly to Medicare for payment on your behalf as an in-network provider would.
Will I have out-of-pocket costs for Acupuncture if I am on Medicare?
Our Process for Medicare Patients:
Yes, because of these state regulations, we operate on a pre-pay basis for all Medicare patients. You will pay for your treatment at the time of service, and we will then submit a "non-assigned" claim to Medicare for you.
Please note: We cannot guarantee reimbursement from Medicare. Any potential reimbursement will be sent directly to you by Medicare based on your specific plan’s rules.
What conditions does Medicare Cover for Acupuncture?
Medicare Coverage Limitations
It is important to understand that Medicare’s coverage for acupuncture is strictly limited:
  • Diagnosis Restriction: Medicare only covers acupuncture for Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP). It does not cover acupuncture for migraines, fertility, stress, or other types of joint pain.

How Many visits does Medicare cover for Acupuncture?

  • Definition of Chronic: The pain must have lasted 12 weeks or longer, have no identifiable systemic cause (like metastatic cancer), and not be associated with recent surgery or pregnancy.
  • Session Limits: Coverage is generally capped at 12 visits in 90 days, with a lifetime maximum of 20 total visits if the patient shows improvement.
Which Medicare Policies Cover It?
  • Original Medicare (Part B): Covers acupuncture for chronic low back pain only when provided in a setting where a Physician or Physician Assistant is present to supervise.
  • Medicare Advantage (Part C): Many Advantage plans (like those from Aetna, Humana, or UnitedHealthcare) offer expanded acupuncture benefits. These plans often have higher reimbursement rates and may cover more sessions or additional diagnoses beyond just back pain.
